Family afternoon

Toby had a few tricky moments today – he was quick to get emotional about things but he also did some fantastic things!

As soon as he woke up he read all of Go Figure! By Johnny Ball. This is such a fantastic maths book, definitely recommend, we discussed some of the problems in it.
Next we went Trampolining, someone jumped on top of Toby in the foam pit. Toby was wearing clothes that blended in and was pretty buried and they didn’t see him. Toby got pretty hurt and after that found it hard to control his emotions 🙁 poor Toby! It meant it was hard work to keep him on the right track but we thought it would be good to try to carry on as Toby can be put off an activity quite easily and trampolining is something we all enjoy.

Once home Vince from next door popped in and Toby played some piano for him which was great. Toby got cross when he missed notes and it was tricky as we haven’t explained Toby’s ASD to Vince as he has been away for a long time and it could be viewed in the wrong light if you don’t understand Toby’s difficulties.
Toby then played Toca blocks – a brilliant construction game on the iPad as a reward for piano playing.

Toby started to read Mathemagician book.

This afternon we had more family over to visit including an Aunt and Uncle who we see very rarely. As soon as they walked in the uncle (trying to be friendly) tickled Toby (who was already feeling a little stressed), Toby got angry and it looked like it might turn out badly but Chris got Toby to calm down well (by offering iPad reward if he managed to get calm and say sorry) and we explained the situation to the guests! After reward time, Toby went upstairs with Jonathan (15 years old) and played k’nex. This was absolutely brilliant as they must have played happily for an hour. Great for Toby! Again for iPad reward Toby did great goodbyes and played piano for everyone.

For bedtime we started doing the Riddle Cubes from the Science Museum but Toby got inspired to cut small squares out of different colour card and number them so we could come up with new games. He invented a game were you make sets and we wrote the rules down!
